porcelain button

Today I made tablecloth for a display table. I'm not happy with some tiny details but overall I'm pleased. I used porcelain buttons which I made to use in another way originally. But the idea didn't seem to work and I'm thinking of taking them to Origin to see if anybody wants to have some. It's got a lovely feel.

'Ceramics in the city' is on at Geffrye museum. They have brilliant potters for the show and it is going on until tomorrow. If anybody interested, please have a look at and get their lovely pots!!

今日はショーのためにテーブルクロスを作りました。机として使っていたものの表面がきれいではないので、風合いが好きな麻で作る事にしました。ところで、私の祖母は和裁士だったのですが、私が小さな頃すでに60近かった祖母のお手伝いの一つが、毎日針に糸を通すことでした。糸を適当な長さに揃え、くけ台に刺して行くその前で、すいすい縫っていく祖母の手際を見て育ったのに、私の針仕事はかなりお粗末なものです。

ただ、そんな経験から勉強したこともありました。それはチャコペンなどの代わりに、縫い目、折り目の印に糸を抜くことです。これはテーブルクロスやカーテンなどの大きくて四角いものを縫う時に私も使う技で、狂いがほとんどなくなり、とても便利です。ぜひ、試してみてください。ただ、麻の布は絹とは違いすいすいとは抜けず、大変でした。でも、とりあえず、なんとか仕上がりました。
