It looks like the soup season has arrived...!
The first soup of this year is my basic one.
1 leek (or onion), 1 carrot, 1 parsnip, a half swede, a clove of garlic, bouillon and tiny bit of coriander seed and cumin, topped with creme fraiche and roasted sunflower seeds.
While cooking the soup, I cleaned the back garden which was filled with fallen leaves and thought of my childhood. We had trees in our garden: pines, camellias, ginkos etc and when the autumn comes we used to have fire with fallen leaves from those trees. We sometimes baked sweet potatoes in the fire and ate it with LOADS of butter. I loved it! (By the way the sweet potato in Japan is much MUCH sweeter! I miss it...)
