This is the last piece of stollen already. I need another loaf!
We celebrate Christmas in Japan but it's not a National holiday. When I was little we would have our little relatives around at home and had a party. We would have Kentucky Fried Chicken and curry and log-shaped Christmas cake made with either ice cream (I used to love it!) or fresh cream. I would hang a stocking next to my bed, but it was just a very ordinary sock I would wear every day... What a shame...! 
It‘s not quite the same, I think, how they celebrate the day in Japan now as we used to do but is still pretty much in Japanese style I think.
I'm also finding the variations in Europe too. I have an Austrian friend with two kids. I joined their wreath making workshop the other day. I'm still working on it after 10 days...

この間リース作りをした。ワイヤーを芯にして新聞紙を輪っかにし、短く切った松の枝で覆っていく。オーストリアでは、このリースは机の上に寝かせて置いて、キャンドルを4つ置くのだそう。この4本はクリスマスまでの４週間を意味し、この期間をAdventと呼ぶ。

アドベントカレンダーなるものもあって、1から24か25までの数字の書かれた窓があり、窓を開ける度にクリスマスの風景が完成していくようなものや、箱になっていてちょっとしたお菓子やプレゼントが入っていたりするものもある。子供たちはその小窓を毎日開けながら、クリスマス当日が来るのを楽しみにするのだそう。

ドイツでは、シュトーレンをこの期間に5ミリほどの厚さに薄く切りながら少しずつ食べる習慣がある。私もその習慣を真似てみようと思ったけれども、写真に納めたのはすでに最後の一切れ、、、。

こちらではクリスマスケーキとして、イギリスのミンスパイやクリスマスプディング、ドイツのシュトーレン、イタリアのパネトーネが店頭に並ぶ。イギリスの2点は、ドライフルーツの比率がかなり高く、かなりくどい。でも、今年はトライしてみようか、、、。とりあえず、イギリスネタとして紹介したいな。
