chervil

I went to Maltby street this morning. The main reason was to get chervil.
There are things you don't notice until you look for it. It was new discovery for me that it is so hard to find the herb in shops. I couldn't find it anywhere I usually go, so I googled why. The reason is because chervil has a very short life span. Actually it wilted while I kept it in water in the studio for a few hours. Apparently it has to be used in a few days at most.
I had two places to get it in my mind: either Borough market or Maltby street market, so I went down to the quieter one. Although, the shop was packed with foodies, was very lively with food discussions! I had samphire in my basket and got asked how I cook it by another customer. Maybe he thought I must have Japanese way of cooking it as we're knowledgeable about sea weeds. He was disappointed to know that I do the same ways as he does.
Anyway I got chervil! It gave lovely flavour to my quiche. I still have some left, am thinking of using it in omelet tomorrow morning.
Inside the bag (in the picture) is a custard doughnut. They do it very nicely. I can't help having one every time I go down!

Borough marketかMaltby street market。

  1. You can store chervil in a bowl of water in the fridge. It keeps for much longer this way :)
