the queen's diamond jubilee

Here in the UK we're in the middle of the diamond jubilee weekend. It was a bit shame about the weather but the pageant on the Thames looked great in the screen. It was like a vessel museum on the river. It was spectacular. 
In Japan it has been always a male Imperial family member who succeed to the throne. Recently we're having arguments if we should change the law and allow succession to female members also. I think it would be hard to understand for you having the Queen why that is even the issue. Apparently one of the reasons is to do with our native religion Shinto. Like some other religions there are things women shouldn't do (or, shouldn't be allowed to do). 
Anyway I wondered what it would be like if our emperor made a pageant...


こちらはエリザベス女王の即位60周年でお祝いムードです。そこら中で英国国旗が翻って、曇り空に戻った薄暗いロンドンも少し華やかです。テムズ川のパレードは、イギリスならでは（というか、日本では地形上無理！）という感じがしますね。川の歴史と船の歴史、それははたまたイギリスの歴史でもあって、ロイヤルファミリーには何の思い入れもない私ですが、なんだか感慨深いものがありました。（また調べたいことがいろいろ出て来てしまったり！）
こちらの人に天皇のおはす日本だったら、どんな行列になるのか、、、と尋ねられました。想像できないと答えた私は、小さな頃のエピソードを話しました。地元の駅で電車待ちをしていたある日、近鉄特急で伊勢神宮参拝に向かわれる昭和天皇、皇后様を見かけました。幼かった私は、特急を一本貸し切りにされるなんてすごいなーと思ったものですが、私も大人になって、敢えてわざわざ近鉄電車を使って参拝に行かれるのにも意味があることを知った事です。それさえもうまく説明しきれたのか不安なもので、イギリスについても日本についても知らない事がたくさんあるなーと気付く日々です。
